The Community of Sant'Egidio of Barcelona, together with the local Jewish Community, held a march through the streets of the city to commemorate the terrible Crystals Night that took place 80 years ago, between the 9th and 10th November 1938.
The Crystal Night (Kristallnacht) marked the beginning of the deportation of European Jews to Nazi concentration and extermination camps. The Kristallnacht was the result of racial hatred, loss of freedom, and accumulated violence that paved the road to the terrible Shoah.
The memory of that night takes us closer to the still existing one made of sorrow and pain, which continue to rise due to propaganda and hatred towards the one who is different. "There is no future without memory" entitled the event that brought together citizens of all ages with many "New Europeans".
The words of the younger generations of Youth for Peace of Sant'Egidio and of the Jewish Community ATID have been very clear: “No one can steal fro us the dream of a more human and peaceful world: together we will resist evil and build a humanity which is open to others and respectful of all".
