Nicaragua - a working-class revolt has recently started following some drastic economic measures taken by the government. The widespread of violence caused 25 casualties at present. Sant’Egidio is incredibly sorrowful for those who have been killed and is particularly worried by the increasing number of missing people.
From Managua, Sant’Egidio supports the words of Pope Francis for “the end of violence to avoid the unnecessary bloodshed, while trying to resolve all the issues peacefully and with sense of responsibility”.
With an appeal, the Community calls “every Nicaraguan citizen to become a builder of peace and justice within his/her own living environments”. Moreover, Sant’Egidio reaffirms the use of violence can never be justified and is inviting everyone to become instrument of Peace, dialogue and tolerance.
For this reason, every day the Community is prays for peace in the city of Managua - involving many, especially the youngest - and supports the efforts of the local Church working on a solution for this moment of crisis.
