In Barcelona from 25 to 27 August 2017, three days of meetings, reflections, visits and friendship, on the topic "More Youth, More Peace".
It is the 7th International Meeting of the European Youth for Peace (youth movement of the Community of Sant'Egidio in different European countries and other continents), after Assisi, Krakow, Rome, Berlin, Antwerp and Paris. The annual meeting of the European Youth for Peace began six years ago. Organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio, now it is a reference point for many high school and university students. More than 500 young people are expected to attend this year, together with Marco Impagliazzo, President of the Community of Sant'Egidio, and Vice President Hilde Kieboom.
The meeting of the Youth for Peace takes place only a few days after the terrible attack that struck Barcelona. To build a future of peace we need "More Youth, More Peace". The meeting will be a place where the youth can live together this vision of peace. The European Youth for Peace, together with other youth from different continents, express the strength of peace that flows from solidarity with the poor, the joy of living together, the friendship among different generations and the service to the refugees.
On Friday, 25 August at 6:30pm, during the International Meeting the Youth for Peace will put flowers and read an appeal for peace in memory of the victims of the attacks of Barcelona and Cambrils on the Rambla (intersection between Rambla and C. Hospital). On Saturday, August 26, they will participate in the great commemoration scheduled in Barcelona.
Throughout the year and throughout Europe, hundreds of high school and university students are engaged with the Community of Sant'Egidio alongside the poorest, in the Schools of Peace for the children of the most disadvantaged areas, with the elderly, with the homeless and the refugees. Through friendship with the poor they discover the importance of solidarity with everyone for building peace.
