The representatives of Zintan and Misurata recently met in Rome thanks to the intervention of the Community of Sant'Egidio. At the end of the meetings, which took place in an atmosphere of mutual listening, a joint declaration was signed on the humanitarian issues of refugees and those injured in the clashes that have been occurring since 2014.
In particular, the talks focused on the most urgent issues that concern the relations between the two cities in order to achieve a reconciliation, that is strategic for the stabilisation of Tripolitania.
The Community of Sant'Egidio is also committed to assisting the future process of rapprochement between the two cities. Furthermore, although the general situation of the country is still extremely difficult, the Community conveys its satisfaction with this further step of détente. In addition to this first agreement between the two important centres of Tripolitania, there are accords that were signed in recent months between the Tuareg tribes, Tebu, and Awlad Suleiman in order to support the cohesion of Fezzan and the sending of humanitarian aid to southern Libya.
In the end, this is a reconciliation that can only happen through a "peace in pieces"; hence, it can be only achieved through several agreements that gradually subtract ground from the current conflict, by rebuilding step by step the social and civil fabric.
After a long crisis, a joint statement was signed in Rome between the representatives of the two Libyan cities. This happened thanks to the mediation of the Community of Sant'Egidio
