In the Jubilee of mercy the elders of San Salvador at the place of martyrdom of Romero

Each with a flower in memory of the martyr bishop. With them many young people of Sant'Egidio.

Hundreds of elderly people of El Salvador, those from old people’s homes and public dormitories, those from the countryside, those from the outskirts of San Salvador, agreed to meet with the youth and adults of the Community of Sant'Egidio for a pilgrimage to the site of the martyrdom of Blessed Oscar Romero. The hymns to Mary, Mother of Mercy, and the memory of the elderly Simeon and Anna, who welcomed Jesus in the temple, accompanied the passage of the Holy Door. Each of them was carrying a flower, a sign of gratitude for Romero's witness of love.
The liturgy in the chapel of the Divine Providence of the Hospitalito was celebrated by Mons. Leon Kalenga Badikebele, Apostolic Nuncio to El Salvador, who thanked the Community for the realisation of this Jubilee day with the elderly, great opportunity for everyone to find mercy of God. In his homily, he also  encouraged the young people present to continue along this road of meeting with the elders and never to forget them. After the liturgy everyone gathered for a big lunch, like at Christmas, like in a family.
