IN ALBANIA, THERE ARE DAYS OF FREEDOM AND VACATION FOR THE SICK INDIVIDUALS OF SANT'EGIDIO FAMILY HOMES, ESPECIALLY AFTER MONTHS OF ISOLATION DUE TO THE PANDEMIC

After almost two years of "closure," the guests of the "red houses" in Tirana were finally able to go out for a vacation time.

Although the Covid situation in Albania is still very serious, it has been possible not only to go out but also to receive visits from friends of the Italian Communities thanks to the vaccines (both the sick and the workers got vaccinated) and the necessary precautions.

The separation that was imposed by the pandemic was hard, even for the many who used to visit the patients regularly but could not do it for a prolonged period. For this reason, 40 individuals left Genoa, Turin, Naples, and Rome to see again their friends with mental distress. After the closure of the psychiatric ward of the hospital in Tirana, these patients have been guests of Sant'Egidio family houses for years.

The extremely fragile condition of these patients has led to special protective measures. However, these days of newfound freedom become a reason for joy, especially thanks to the simple gestures of everyday life.
