During the past days, the Community of Sant'Egidio, in collaboration with the Libyan NGO Staco, distributed urgent humanitarian aid in the detention center for migrants in the periphery of Zintan, in north-western Libya. This center was mentioned in the media [IT] multiple times because of the sad conditions of the more than 800 migrants who are being detained there. Most of them come from the tortured region of the Horn of Africa (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia).
In the messages that have come out, migrants lament the very difficult life conditions that have caused several victims because of illness (TBC in particular) and malnutrition. The aid - food, medicine and materials for personal hygiene - aims to contribute to more dignified life conditions for the refugees who are forced to live in these centers, where conditions are known to be on the limits of survival.
