On Tuesday 28th May, before taking the floor at the event launching his interview-book "Everything can change", Andrea Riccardi visited the nuns of Santa Maria del Monte Carmelo in Pescara. Some of them, the five oldest, had lived in the monastery of Sant Egidio in Trastevere (Rome) before September 1973 when it became the home of the Community, which since then bears this name.
Quite a long and familiar meeting, at times moving: so many memories of the nuns who also gave Andrea Riccardi the opportunity to share with over 50 years of Community history.
The cloistered nuns, currently twenty of them in this hermitage overlooking the Adriatic, expressed their joy for the place where some of them had lived - and in which the Carmelites lived for over three centuries - has been taken up "by a Community that lives the Gospel with faith, which is friend of the poor and works for peace”. The visit ended with the commitment to make the bonds of friendship and communion even stronger: "In the hope of seeing each other again soon, we renew our bond and our prayer for all the Communities of St. Egidio in the world".
