Multiple representatives of civil society, women's and youth associations, and NGOs from all over Libya gathered in Naples. They were invited by the Community of Sant'Egidio, the University for Foreigners of Perugia, and the Istituto Affari Internazionali. In particular, all the participants created a "platform for dialogue" in order to analyse the current situation in Libya and reflect on the future of this country.
More than 20 unions took part in the two-day event, also organised with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dedicated to the "Role and priorities of civil society in the stabilisation and development processes in Libya".
First of all, during the works, the representatives emphasized the serious humanitarian situation that spares no citizen and no sector of social life. Moreover, they renewed their call for more effective humanitarian assistance; they reiterated their willingness to work for the rebirth of a united and peaceful Libya in which all citizens, beyond their ethnic, tribal, and geographical affiliation, should enjoy the same rights and opportunities.
The delegates - who all expressed their gratitude to the organisers for this unprecedented meeting - asked that in future the demands of civil society be taken into due consideration, with particular attention to those of young people and women.
The presence of the Deputy Minister Emanuela Del Re was particularly appreciated by being actively involved in every phase of it.
A synergy between Sant'Egidio, University for Foreigners of Perugia, Institute of International Affairs, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
