World day of the Poor in Hong Kong, the inauguration and blessing ceremony of the “Home of Mercy” for the homeless

and Eucharist celebration for the 50th anniversary

Last 18th November 2018, World day of the Poor, was a special day for the Community of Sant’Egidio in Hong Kong.

One year after his opening, the inauguration of the Home of Mercy took place.

This house, opened by the Community at the end of the Jubilee of Mercy, welcomes and gives shelter to 6  homeless in need. Bishop Michael Yeung, visiting  and blessing the house, said Sant’Egidio is a concrete sign of hope in recognizing the image of Christ in the poor and the weak.

The Bishop uncovered  a golden plaque with the Sant’Egidio logo an underneath a reproduction of the “Homeless Jesus” sculpture. It was a simple and joyful ceremony with friends, volunteers, and the guests of the house.

The day continued with the Eucharist celebration for the 50th anniversary at the parish of Our Lady of China, where more than one hundred friends of Sant’Egidio - elderly and children of the school of peace with their families, took part.
