The Community of Sant'Egidio welcomes the signing of the agreement between the Holy See and the People's Republic of China. The agreement, regarding the appointments of Bishops, was signed today 22nd September in Beijing.
We trust this is an important step forward, awaited for decades, providing with positive effects on the reconciliation of the region and a new pastoral impetus for all Catholic communities in China. We express the greatest sympathy and closeness to our Chinese brothers. We pray and hope to be more and more together as Church moving forward - according to the wishes of Pope Francis.
