More than a hundred people have gathered on 13th February 2018 in the Carmelite church in Kensington, London to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Community of Sant’Egidio.
The prayer was led by Mons. Vincenzo Paglia, spiritual counsellor of the worldwide Community of Sant’Egidio, President of the Pontifical Academy for Life and Grand Chancellor of the St. John Paul II Pontifical Institute for Studies of Marriage and Family.
At the prayer Mons. Paglia expressed how the story of Sant’Egidio is effectively the one of the parable of the good Samaritan, that stopped not just to help but also befriend the poor and ill person he met in the street. He recalled Pope Benedict XVI expression of “seeing, feeling compassion and loving”, saying that also the big city of London needs this process to beat loneliness.
After the prayer, the entire Community of London – older, younger, richer and poorer alike – attended a celebratory reception.
