A scale that leans towards the life of a poor man instead of the wealth of the world. This is the winning work in the provincial competition of drawing and poetry in which the topic is the value of life. The contest was organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio with the students of the Collège Alfajiri of Bukavu, which is the largest high school in eastern Congo. Specifically, the aim of this event is to promote a culture of peace and coexistence among young people.
Alex Mbilizi, who is 16 years old and the author of the drawing, explained his illustration as follows: "Life has no price, and no matter how hard we try to put riches on the plate, the scales will always tip towards human life".
In addition to Alex's work, other creations were selected: four poems and four drawings, such as that of Ndagano, who is 16 years old. He depicted a boat full of gold; a wealth that the passengers will have to dispose of in order to make room for a castaway.
