A COLLABORATION AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED IN ORDER TO SEND HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT TO SOUTHERN LIBYA

The Community of Sant'Egidio has signed a cooperation accord with STACO, which is the most important Libyan NGO and it is engaged in helping the civilian population through the construction of health centres, the distribution of medicines, and the reconstruction of schools.

Through this agreement, the Community will be able to implement the delivery of food aid and medicines, by reaching in this way the people of southern Libya, who live in areas that are difficult to access. They also suffer from the unstable situation in the north part of the country.

The agreement with STACO is part of a series of initiatives that have been carried out by the Community of Sant'Egidio. In particular, these initiatives aim to reach a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Libya and the stabilisation of the country, especially in the southern region of Fezzan. Furthermore, the representatives of the Fezzan tribes have met several times at Sant'Egidio where they achieved both political agreements and accords on the distribution of humanitarian aid. Thanks to the collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Community has made possible the sending of medicines to the hospitals of Ubari and Sebha, the capital of Fezzan.
