Sant'Egidio has been present in Ukraine since 1991. Its deep roots in the country and constant closeness to the population during the war has allowed Sant'Egidio to have an in-depth and granular understanding of Ukrainian people's suffering and needs.
 Thanks to the Communities of Sant'Egidio in Ukraine, an extensive network of humanitarian aid has been set up throughout the territory even in the areas hardest hit by the fighting.



Over two years of war, Sant'Egidio has distributed 2,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid. Five Humanitarian Centres for IDPs have been opened in Lviv, in Ivano-Frankivsk and in three districts of Kyiv. Every month since, 12,000 food parcels have been distributed and 3,000 have been sent to war zones (Donetsk, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions). 
Overall, Sant'Egidio food support has reached 370,000 people, while an estimated 2 million have received medicines (about 1 million packages sent).

 

Sant'Egidio remains firmly committed to continuing to protect and help the Ukrainian population, particularly  the most vulnerable:

 

- children, for whom a support network is active and reaches 10,000 minors

- IDPs, mostly women with children

- elderly people

- people with disabilities

- homeless people
