A group of Syrian refugees from Lebanon arrived yesterday at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport, which is located in Paris.
This group is composed of two families who are originally from Aleppo and Hama. It consists of six people, including three children that are 6 years old, 4 years old, and 1 month old. They seek a new peaceful life after terrible years experienced first in Syria and then in the refugee camps, which are situated in Lebanon. They will be welcomed in Suresnes and La Montagne; and will be supported and accompanied on their path to integration through the help of collective citizens that was organized by the Sant'Egidio Community.
The families are admitted within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the project "Operation for the Solidarity Reception of Refugees from Lebanon (Humanitarian Corridors)." This protocol was renewed and signed in Paris on April 12, 2021, between the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Community of Sant'Egidio France, and Social Weeks of France. It provides over the next three years for the identification, reception, integration, and inclusion in France of 300 refugees, who were located in Lebanon and are from Iraq and Syria. The priority was given to the most vulnerable.
This new arrival in France brings to 46 the number of people received under this second protocol, including 20 children under the age of 18. This second agreement follows the first one, which was signed in 2017 and allowed the reception of 504 people in France under the same criteria.
