South Sudan: Sant'Egidio continues its work for peace and reconciliationPeace South Sudan
A delegation of the Community went to Juba, the South Sudan capital, and was received by the President of the Republic, Salva Kiir and by the National Pre-Transitional Committee, the #organo instituted at the September 2018 agreement to from a government of National Unity. The committee participated in a meeting with the Community of Sant'Egidio in Rome last July, on the promotion of political dialogue.
In these days' meetings, the peace agreement and its concrete application in the country were pivotal, together with the efforts to include those who haven't signed it. Among the themes discussed there was the formation of a transitional government and the distribution of humanitarian aid to permit refugees to return. Appreciation was expressed for the work of the Community of Sant'Egidio and for the invitation to the South Sudan Minister of External Affairs to participate in the meeting 'Peace with No Borders' in Madrid.
The visit was also an occasion to renew the friendship with Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro and the cooperation with the Ecumenical Council of Churches in South Sudan.
