Sri Lanka: the grief over Easter Day attacks

The Community of Sant Egidio expresses its deep sorrow feels close to the people and the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka, bloodied by the serious attacks that have caused dozens dead. While hoping the rescue operations will be saving the many injured, the Community expresses the strongest condemnation to anyone who plot homicidal plots versus innocent, helpless and faithful people. It is a blind violence with the sole purpose of sowing terror and undermine every form of cohabitation. It is dismaying the choice to strike Christians people precisely on Easter day, the most important sacred feast of the year, and in churches - attended by Muslims and Buddhists people - where one lives a spirit of peaceful cohabitation between believers of different religions. The peaceful life of Christians remains the greatest response to those sowing hatred and division. Let us not leave Sri Lanka, and the Christians alone. Let us show the strongest solidarity from all the Churches and the worshipers of different religions. Let us take every possible path of reconciliation and peace.
