The "Pabellón Sant’Egidio”: a new place designed for the children of the School of Peace in Mexico City

Last Sunday, in Mexico City, the new "Pabellón Sant’Egidio” was inaugurated: a place designed for the  children of the School of Peace. This unit is situated in the borough of Roma, where Sant'Egidio has been active for some years, helping people living on the streets with the supply of food and hot drinks, blankets and other basic provisions.

The "Pabellón Sant'Egidio" stands in a courtyard that the Community has been using for some time. Small expenses and great creativity made it possible to create a new and well organized space to set up class rooms for the School of Peace and other activities.
Among the different projects taking place in this space, one is called !A las calles! (On the streets!): a series of activities helping  children to learn various forms of artistic expression, as well as peace workshops. Moreover, the following action will be implemented:

- Side canvas to be designed by children
- Peace Mural Painting on the main facade
- Screenings of thematic movies
- Every child will receive a disposable camera to take picture of the world as they see it.

The project will conclude with an exposition of all the children’s works.
Many took part to the inauguration of a project which wants to give voice and power of expression to the little once, in the spirit of “peripheries at the centre”.
