TELEMEDICINE FOR STREET CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY IN TOGO: WHERE SCIENCE AND SOLIDARITY COME TOGETHER

An agreement was signed in the northern suburbs of Lomé to provide free medical examinations to street children and elderly people. This aid was sent by the Community of Sant'Egidio. The accord was signed during the inauguration of the telemedicine service "Global Health Telemedicine", which was installed at the "Santè et Action Global" health center.

People can now remotely report electrocardiograms and X-rays through the Internet. They can even request diagnostic and therapeutic suggestions from 18 specialist branches, which consist of basically 120 European specialists who will be able to respond.

A 3-day training course preceded the inauguration of this innovative service. It is one more way to be neighbours at a distance and to build bridges between Africa and Europe.
