"Aleppo is waiting for the return of its kidnapped bishops and priests. It is waiting for the end of the war." This was the appeal made by the Armenian Catholic Archbishop of Aleppo, Butros Marayati, at the final ceremony of the international "Paths of Peace" meeting. Specifically, the conference was organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio in Munster and Osnabruck, Germany. Marayati argued that "War is not fought with war, but with dialogue, forgiveness, reconciliation, and with the will to begin a new life by following the path of the roads of peace.” Marayati, who is the leader of the Armenian community in the symbolic city of the long Syrian conflict, recalled the other two bishops of Aleppo - Syrian Orthodox Mar Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim and Greek Orthodox Paul Yazigi - who were kidnapped on April 22, 2013. He also remembered all the children, women, and refugees who are waiting for peace. He concluded by saying "The cry 'never again war' is rising from all of them because warfare is always a useless slaughter.”
