Mahamadou Issoufou, who is the President of the Republic of Niger, visited on Saturday morning the Community of Sant'Egidio together with a delegation of the government of Niamey.
He was welcomed by President Marco Impagliazzo along with other leaders of the Community. Among the topics discussed were the peace in the Sahel region, interreligious dialogue, and the fight against poverty as an effective tool for preventing emigration. Therefore, the help in the development of Africa is a necessary investment to enable many young Africans to work for the future of their countries.
"The topic of migration is a priority for Niger - said Marco Impagliazzo - because this country is at the center of the routes that are used by the human traffickers.
President Issoufou has shown deep sensitivity to this issue, by being in this way the first African head of state that has expressed words of condolence for the many victims of the Sahara and Mediterranean journeys".
