Everything is now ready for the Syrian refugees that tonight will depart from Beirut to reach Italy thanks to the humanitarian corridors. They are 101 people, 97 Syrians and 4 Iraqis. Among them are 44 children, 14 cases of serious illness or disability, 10 families that consist of single women with children.
They come from cities that were once beautiful, that the war has made uninhabitable: Homs, Damascus, Hama, Aleppo, Hassaka, Baghdad.
37 of them (35%) are Christians. Among them are Shoshn, an Assyrian Christian from Hassaké, and Kervoc, an Armenian from Aleppo. It is they that give voice to the pain and the hopes of all, in these hours before the departure. We listen to their voices.
