Refugees: Gentiloni is right to relaunch the #humanitariancorridors promoted by Sant'Egidio and Protestant Churches

 The Foreign Minister, Paolo Gentiloni, was right to point out, during the Geneva conference on the Syrian refugees, the humanitarian corridors as a "sign of hope" and one of the solutions to the problem. Sant'Egidio remembers that the project, entirely self-financed, carried out by our Community together with the Federation of Evangelical Churches in Italy and the Waldensian Table, has so far managed to send 97 Syrian refugees to Italy, with regular visas on humanitarian grounds, thanks to an agreement with the Italian state.  All are persons in conditions of "vulnerability" (families with children, elderly people, disabled people, people at risk of trafficking) who thus avoided risking their lives on the journeys of desperation across the Mediterranean. We will send, in just over a year, another thousand from Lebanon, Morocco and Ethiopia.  The system works. But to save a larger number of people it is time that the European States take on this model, which is proving to be the most effective, safe (it is regular visas) and, above all, more human (think of the camp of Idomeni, between Greece and Macedonia) for those fleeing war.
