this Holy Week we are living, especially this year, tells us of the force of evil, but also of the victory of Jesus over evil and death, by his Resurrection.
The Notre Dame fire, in Paris, tells us this story of the disaster of the flames, but also of people standing united, as if the tragic event awoke the awareness of a common destiny.
In the same way, death and Resurrection are in the images we are getting from Mozambique and Malawi.
Faced with this huge disaster of cyclone Idai, anyone could ask "It's all over?". Yes, the city of Beira is devasted and the multipurpose Dream centre is severely damaged. Love like dreams never ends and keeps saving lives. We have seen the generosity of Europeans come running to work shoulder to shoulder with Africans that, even if affected by the cyclone, are doing all one can for everyone: thousands of people helped with cholera vaccines, medical care, food and love. The wind has blown part of the roof of the Dream centre, but it hasn't shut down a single day, giving refugee to hundreds of people left homeless and delivering humanitarian aid thanks to the support of many people in the world, also through our website (Find out more)
In Africa as in other parts of the world we have met women and men that managed to rise up in the face of adversity, showing that only with a heart close to others you can rise again. As Cacilda Massango, a brave woman, that helped many women regain hope, being cured from Aids by the programme Dream, and making possible the birth of healthy children. Now she is on the front line to relief the cyclone victims.
Cacilda is submitted as a candidate for the prize "Woman of the year 2019". This recognition could be a sign of hope for women like her that are fighting with their bare hands and a big heart against the force of evil.
