Dear user,
It is not easy to find order in our world today. At times, it seems difficult to understand it. We live in a time of bewilderment. The contemporary world is indeed complex and requires the ability to read the diversity of events, to grasp their depth with the culture of complexity.
This age seems to condemn us to irrelevance. Everything is too great, vast and difficult to understand. Yet, in Sant'Egidio being irrelevant has never been our choice, and never will be.
That is why this year too we came together, at the Colosseum, with a common and ambitious dream: to free the world from the death penalty, and from hatred. We are sick of hatred. There is too much of it around. Too much aggression, too much fear of the other, even on-line.
Death penalty must be stopped: because it does not reduce violence, rather it adds an even more terrible one.
This is the commitment of the Community of Sant’Egidio. This is the commitment of the worldwide authorities taking part at the 12° International Meeting of Justice Ministers "Paving the Way: Defeating Hatred. A World Without the Death Penalty”. So many friends and allies, that with us in 70 capitals of the world and in two thousand cities ,have illuminated together with the Colosseum their most important monuments.
Pave the way with us, defeat hatred!
