The Basilica of St.Paul is filled by a multi-coloured crowd gathered there for the Eucharistic celebration which opens the inter-religious Meeting for peace, the 27th edition of the international meetings for peace organized by the Community of St. Egidio.
Card. Vallini, the Vicar General of Rome, presided over the liturgy together with Card. Sistach of Barcelona and Card. Harvey. Commenting on the parable of the rich Man and Lazarus, he said that being Christian means to be responsible for one another. “The rich man – he said- was doing no harm. It’s not enough. The weak point of the rich man is that he was not doing the good he could do”.
The celebration was attended also by the representatives of the Orthodox and Protestant Churches. While Pope Francis was exchanging an embrace of peace with Jouhanna X, the Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch, who is in Rome to attend the inter-religious meeting, the ecumenical representatives raised a prayer for the liberation of the bishops kidnapped in Syria some months ago and for Christian unity. |
