In Rome summer came at the end of August: after a long cool summer, the temperature has started from August 20 to rise. We are on high alert on the sixth day of the heat and the health of those most vulnerable is put to the test. Among them, elderly people aging over 75 are facing the difficulties of everyday life, often already heavy with shops closed and essential services to a minimum.
These days, the Community of Sant'Egidio, has intensified its monitoring activities on the population over 75, Old Town and the suburbs of Rome through phone calls and home visits designed to check the health of the elderly and to offer practical help in difficult situations: grocery shopping, help with administrative formalities, company, looking for an air conditioner.
Reducing the temperature of the house of an elderly person a few degrees can save their life and a small gesture of generosity can change the quality of a person's life.
The Community of Sant'Egidio appeals to the generosity of all to collect portable air conditioning systems, in good condition, to be offered to seniors who need them.
